In Kalives you can find the ancient city of Ippokoronio, which was one of the two ports in ancient Apteros. In 1206 ac.
the fort Castle Apicorno which is situated on the hill of Kasteli where many ruins are found, was built. It is a place of
great historical interest.In Kalives you will admire three beautiful rivers. It is a sight which cannot be missed.

Messopotamos is a man-made river which gives power to the largest and most complex Venetian water mill in Crete
(16^th – 17^th century).

The port of Kalives

You will enjoy a walk along the port by sunset and have a romantic dinner in one of the restaurants. Pleasure and tranquility with a sea breeze.

Kalives – Koumos

All is built with hand made stones. Even the table that you can taste Cretan dishes or have a drink among the olive trees. There is also a collection of folklore items of interest.

In Kalives you’ll admire many churches which will appeal to you.
Some of these are:


Agia Paraskevi near the square. It celebrates and has mass on the eve of July 25^th and in the morning of July 26^th.	The church of Virgin Mary is found in the back streets of Kalives.It celebrates and has mass on the eve 14th in the morning of August 15^th.		The temple of Agio Ioannou in Platania one kilometre from Kalives.Ιt celebrates and has mass on the 29^th of August in the morning.

You’ll also find the vaulted tomb of Stilo, near Kalives which is a monument from the post-Minoan period 1390 – 1190 bc.Â It can be found on the hill Azere, north of Aptera and east on the road which leads to the village of Stilos.

Tip:Â It’s worth the journey from the old road where you can see a combination of sights such as Kiliaris and Platanakia, Agios Ioannis – Aptera and you’ll end up at the village ofMegala Horafia where you can enjoy your meal with traditional cuisine.

* Aptera: It is very close to Kalives with a superb view of Souda Bay which you can’t miss. You’ll see the walls
of the ancient city, the ruins from the temple of Dinitra , a Roman theatre, palaces and the gigantic Roman reservoirs.

In 1646 Reouf Pasas built Fort Itzentin which is one kilometre from Kalives, in Kalami.

Tip: It’s location is worth seeing because of the magnificent view. You can have a coffee in the cafeteria there or
have something to eat at the restaurant which is very close to Kalithea.

In Kalives you’ll find the famous Cretan cuisine, where olive oil is used which gives you health and well-being.
We suggest you try out the restaurant Piperia which has had excellent reviews from the Daily Telegraph for
its exceptional dishes with the use of olive oil and pure ingredients. It is situated on the beachÂ 200 metres from
Kalithea.

Almirida

At Almirida just five kilometers from Kalithea, you’ll find a picturesque village with very good taverns that specialize in
fish dishes. Don’t hesitate to have a swim before eating.

Vamos

The capital of Apokoronou, a traditional village. At Karidi is Agios Georgios Monastery with a big oil press which
consists of twelve bows. It’s worth seeing!

Uncomparable beauty which will lure you to enjoy your dinner there, for a drink or to paint it! Every hour that goes
by the scenery changes.

Tip:Â Start your day with something to eat at Argiroupoli, a coffee at Lake Kourna or a boat ride and finish off with a
swim at Georgoupoli. You’ll have a great time!
